Rethinking National Security: Investing in Resilience and Prosperity
At Cascadia Foreign Policy, we support national security investments that actually make us safer and improve our lives.

Our Priorities
We advocate increased investments in our National Guards for wildfire response and prevention, enhanced public health systems to address pandemics, and initiatives to mitigate economic disruptions resulting from tensions in Asia—issues uniquely critical to the Pacific Northwest.
We champion closer coordination between military investments and local civilian needs. By optimizing dual-use defense infrastructure—such as Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Whidbey Naval Air Station, and Bangor Submarine Base—we ensure that these assets directly contribute to regional prosperity. Examples include greater civilian use of military airfields, investment in defense-tech startups, and fostering regional innovation clusters in areas like unmanned maritime technology and aerospace.
The Pacific Northwest perspective uniquely emphasizes a thoughtful re-evaluation of national security priorities, informed by our distance from traditional East Coast policy hubs and our distinct history and values. We amplify local voices advocating for restraint in military expenditures abroad, and greater reinvestment in domestic well-being and community resilience at home.
